BALANCE is the key skill required to ride a Bicycle
Seeing your children (or even grandchildren) ride around the park or going out with them on a bike is one of those activities that leaves lasting memories for both young and old alike.
The question Blue Cycle Training often get asked is
How do children using stabilizers move onto a bike with 2 wheels and the the cycling skills and confidence that are so important when riding a bicycle?
Balance is the basic cycling skill that needs to be mastered before anyone can learn to ride a bike with confidence; learning to lean the bike to turn and the importance of visual awareness to maintain stability and direction are the keys.
Unfortunately stabilizers do not help with this as children don’t need to worry about balance as the extra 2 wheels help maintain an upright position without the vital balancing skills
If you are looking to get your child a bike, and if they are under 5 and cannot ride a 2 wheel bike, we suggest consider getting a balance bike.
This is a small 2 wheel bike without pedals and children propel themselves with their feet and learn the skills of balancing and manoeuvring. Very soon they will be whizzing around like little rockets and once they can glide with feet off the ground they are ready for some pedal training.
For older children some time spent getting their balance is the way to get them up and riding.
Blue Cycle Training have a few balance bikes for hire. These are suitable for children aged 2 years and upwards.
