Why you shouldn’t buy a really cheap new kids bike
Every so often I wonder if I’m being unrealistic by recommending that parents (and grandparents) spend a little bit more on a kids bike to ensure they get a bicycle that’s decently designed, and safe for their son or daughter to ride.
I know that many families are struggling at the moment but too many children struggle to ride their new bike because it’s too heavy for them or it’s broken after just one or two rides.
Or even worse, that they get a bike that’s actually unsafe for them to ride.
A bike should be ridden and enjoyed and with everyone’s budgets tightening at the moment, it’s a false economy buying a new bike that isn’t fit for purpose.
This is especially so if you’re going to be using it to commute regularly on the school run.
It’s much better to buy a better quality new or second hand bike that you know is reliable day in, day out.
Blue Cycle Training want children riding good quality bikes so we
- Sell new Frog, Forme, Dawes and Squish bikes
- Sell 2nd hand frog bikes
- Hire / Rent Frog bikes
Another option is to rent bikes by clicking on The Bike Club creating an account and choosing your bike.
The Bike Club is a subscription service, for kids bikes similar to a phone contract without the 2 or 3 year contract.
You pay a monthly subscription to them, and in return you get to use of one of their quality kids bikes from manufacturers such as Frog, Forme or Squish.
After 18 months (or 12 months for a balance bike) you’re entitled to a free upgrade to the next size bike, so you know your child will be on the perfect bike at all times.
If you do need to swap or cancel the bike before the 18 months, you just pay a small fee to cover delivery / collection costs.
The idea is to ensure that every child is always riding the correct size bike, without the need to ever buy a kids bike again!
Blue Cycle Training receive a small commission if you order a bike after clicking on The Bike Club
